Recalled Similac Baby Formula

A recent recall of three types of infant formulas from Abbott Nutrition has caused consumers to question their safety. These products contain a bacterium that can cause severe infections and even harm the bowels. The bacterium is known as Cronobacter sakazakii. The bacteria is spread through the blood. Consumers are urged to stop feeding their babies this formula and seek medical attention if they are suffering from one of the illnesses linked to it. Source

Most Popular And Widely Used Formulas On The Market

Recalled Similac Baby Formula includes the Similac PM 60/40 variety, as well as the Alimentum brand. This baby formula contains a special ingredient called Cronobacter sakazakii. The CDC reports that this bacterium is associated with bacterial infections in infants. Those affected by the recall should return the products to their retailers. If the recalled product is not on the shelves, call your healthcare provider immediately.

While it is impossible to predict when the affected formula will run out, parents should discard any remaining bottles immediately. Some national retailers are already limiting purchases of the recalled formula. One such store is Walmart. While Walmart’s policy does not apply to every brand, consumers should check the ingredients on the formula cans to see if the brand is compatible with the recalled product. This is especially important for families that receive government benefits, such as food stamps.
